The Charities Act 2006 required previously exempt charities (mainly churches) with income over £100,000 pa to register from October 2008 with the Charity Commission and comply with new legislation.
Our previous governing documents, London Baptist Property Board Ltd (LBPB) Trust Deed dated 5th June 1974, Articles of Faith and Church Rules would no longer meet legal requirements and will therefore, we have replaced them. In 2008 LBPB negotiated a new ‘Constitution for Baptist Churches’, acceptable to the Charity Commission, whilst retaining those characteristics that make us Baptists, for example, decisions made at Church Members Meetings. To accommodate differences in Baptist views, LBPB agreed options that each Baptist Church could choose from, which are acceptable to the Charity Commission.

At a Special Church Meeting on Wednesday 28th January 2009, the members present unanimously voted to accept the new Constitution, which is available for download below. The appendices, although not part of the Charities Commission required documents, combine what we believe, our vision for the future and procedures for appointing people to service. Together they reflect our part in the wider Baptist family and God’s calling to serve our local community in Petts Wood.
